Hi my dear crafters!
One day I had the idea of a little house with a zipper. A house you can easily take on trips and vacations. A house the kids can play with, but that is light and plastic-free. A wonderful house of dreams, surrounded by flowers you can almost smell…
And I created one! I have to admit that when it comes to crafts I can be a quite spontanous person, which doesn’t really match sewing projects. With sewing, you have to plan, measure, create patterns, adjust the patterns… so I am really happy with the outcome, because I didn’t measure one thing and didn’t even think of a pattern.

I like to repurpose old clothes, bedclothes or other fabric that just lays in a drawer and is never used. I almost never buy fabric for a sewing project. Same here. I found an old bedcloth with a woven border that was perfect for the house of dreams I imagined. I found the zipper in my stash – yes, a smaller zipper in a lighter colour would have been better, but that is what I had and I had to work with that.

I embroidered the roof and the plants. For the windows and the door, I hand-sewed small fabric scrabs on. I wanted to create a house where fairys, animals, gnomes and dolls could live and wich inspires the kids to play what makes them feel good.
As you can see, I sewed a leaf on the zipper to make it even a little bit more magical ๐

My sons love it and play with it very often. Especially the little one puts his dogs inside and takes them with him wherever he goes.
I plan to make more of it and experiment with the numbers of the sides (this house only has three sides), with the shape and with the embroidery.

I am sorry that I can’t provide a pattern or tutorial or any useful kind of instructions – but as I said, I created the house of dreams planless and spontanuous. However, I still hope that this might be an inspiration for someone, and I would be thrilled to see your creation of a house of dreams!
